Agrimony – General Data

Agrimony (agrimonia spp.)-  general data and medicinal properties

Character: a bitter, astringent, cooling, drying plant

General Information:  Agrimony is most valued as a healing herb for the mucous membranes, and for it’s astringent properties to stop bleeding. In the 15th century, Agrimony was used to stop bleeding from gunshot wounds and wounds in general. It has an exceptionally high silica content which is likely responsible for it’s medicinal qualities.

Contains: silica, tannins, bitter principles, vitamin B, vitamin K, minerals, flavonoids, and essential oil

Medicinal Properties: diuretic, heals tissue and stops bleeding, astringent, stimulates bile, anti-parasite, antibacterial, antiviral

Culinary Application: a bitter useful in alcoholic beverages
