Sinusitis

A sinus infection is inflammation and blockage of the sinuses;  the nasal passages become filled with mucous and fluid which contains germs and cause infection. Many natural remedies can be very effective in correcting sinusitis.

Sinus Cleanse is preformed daily.  A saline rinse may be used a few times per day if needed.  You can add an optional ingredient for sinus infection using the content of (1) capsule of the Herbal Antibiotic. This is steeped, strained through a coffee filter, and then added to either of these No. 1 or No. 2  Netti Pot Solutions below;

Basic Neti Pot Saline Mix No. 1

  1. 1 cup of distilled water
  2. ½ teaspoon sea salt or Himalayan salt
  3. 1 teaspoon of aluminum free baking soda

Basic Syringe (baby size) Suds & Saline Mix No. 2

  1. 1 cup of warm distilled water
  2. ½ teaspoon sea salt or Himalayan salt
  3. 1 teaspoon of aluminum free baking soda
  4. 1 teaspoon of “no tears” baby shampoo

*if using this method, after using the solution, rinse the nasal passages several times with plain distilled water until the water is clear and free of soap or mucous.  This can be preformed every day.  Many find this method is more effective than salt water alone. Essential oils in this process is optional.

Always rinse the syringe thoroughly after each use with 3% hydrogen peroxide. Store the bulb, nose tip down, to drain out any moisture and prevent bacteria buildup.

To the Basic No. 1 Mix, add one of these

  1. 1-3 drops of Tea Tree Oil
  2. 1 drop of each of these;  Frankincense, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary
  3. Some people add 1 drop of 35% food grade H202.  Never more than 1 drop to a 1 cup salt solution.  DO NOT combine H202 with essential oils.  H202 binds to oil.

Making a Basic No. 1 Mix in Bulk for Convenience–  Combine the following

  1. 10 Tablespoons of fine ground sea salt
  2. 6 drops Tea Tree Oil
  3. 4 drops Eucalyptus Oil
  4. 8 drops Rosemary Oil
  5. 8 drops Frankincense Oil

Mix thoroughly and store in an air-tight glass jar.  For each Neti wash, dissolve 1 teaspoon of the mix in 1 ½ cups of warm distilled water (not hot, the oils will evaporate away)

Antibiotic Neti Wash

Make a tea combining—

  1. 1/3 teaspoon of Antibiotic Herbal Formula
  2. 1 cup of hot distilled water
  3. ½ teaspoon of sea salt or Himalayan salt

Steep for 5 minutes, stirring to dissolve the salt.  Strain into the Neti Pot and when liquid is at room temperature, add 3 drops of essential oils from the list above in any combination.

The berberines in the Antibiotic Herbal Formula are excellent in their properties to fight infection.  However, berberine taking internally for the sinuses is not effective because berberine can move from the gut through your body to the sinus cavities.  To use it directly in a Neti Pot as described is the only way to reach where the infection is.  Frankincense as an internal supplement can be used because this essential oil crosses the blood-brain-barrier.  To supplement, most agree that taking 5 drops in an empty capsule after food in the AM and again with food in the PM is optional.  Start with a taper using 1 drop twice daily and work up to 5 and 5.  If you burp up the oil, reduce to a level where no stomach upset occurs and work up more gradually.

Other Helpful Options

Be sure to also drink plenty of filtered or distilled water each day.  A high intake of water will help to keep the mucus thin and easier to expel.

Vitamin C and other antioxidants can be effective to help strengthen your immune system.
Using herbs to support the immune system and modulate it are also excellent which include those like astragalus, garlic, oregano, rosemary, clove, Ceylon cinnamon, olive leaf, pau d arco, graviola, ginseng, and others.
The Anti-inflammatory Formula is beneficial to help reduce inflammation during this process.  It consists of an organic blend of Ceylon cinnamon, fenugreek seed, ginger root, and turmeric.  Eat as much curry as you tolerate or take turmeric as a supplement.  Turmeric also crosses the blood brain barrier and is an anti-inflammatory.  For extra benefit take 99mg of potassium once daily.  Potassium helps to reduce mucous by reducing inflammation.
If you experience migraines along with the congested sinuses, you can supplement CoQ10 in a 200 mg. daily dose.  In cases of true migraines and not just a sinus headache, CoQ10 can be very helpful.  It is only beneficial however, when taken every day.
Sometimes when sinusitis is a long chronic problem, you will build up scar tissue in the nasal cavities.  To reduce this take the following—

    • 1-3 O-3 Enzyme tablets with water on an empty stomach 1-4 times per day
    • Take 120,000 units of Serrapeptase with water on an empty stomach 1 or 2 times per day
    • These can be used separately or together, expect 2 months to 6 months for results to begin, or longer if the problem is severe or years of chronic infections, or surgeries which can often cause nasal passages to build residual scar tissue.

Certain foods may contribute to sinusitis including;  dairy, gluten, food allergens which are individual, excluding wasabi and peppers– excessively consuming hot spicy foods which may be causing acid reflux, can wash acids into the throat and mouth at night while asleep, resulting in an increase inflammation. Soda and other caffeinated beverages, and alcohol, cause inflammation.

If frankincense oil taken therapeutically does not bring about improvement, try using lemongrass oil next. If it is a resistant bacteria, lemongrass may be the answer.
Drink tea for clearing and healing the sinuses.  The tea blend recommended is 1 part Sinus Tea + 1 part Butterbur and prepare it as a Tea Concentrate, drinking 3 cups per day between meals.  How to make a Tea Concentrate can be found under the Wellness Tab Post 2. Other teas that may be of help include gentian root, astragalus root, alfalfa leaf, rosemary, oregano, thyme, lemongrass, and lemon balm, lavender, and basil
Foods that may be beneficial to reducing sinusitis include;

Garlic

Horseradish

Wasabi

Lemongrass

Pineapple

Coconut, coconut oil and milk

Fermented foods unless there is systemic yeast or fungus involvement

High probiotic yogurt

Olives

Tomatoes

Pumpkin Seeds

Herbs  garlic, onion, ginger root, lemongrass, pineapple, coconut and coconut oil, cayenne, sheep sorrel, lemon balm, blue vervain, chai spices, green tea, white tea, basil, oregano, lavender, turmeric, fenugreek, Ceylon cinnamon.

MMS  if the above do not have the desired effects, you can try a product called MMS.  This is a systemic approach which may correct any number of health concerns and restore balance.

Apple Cider Vinegar is commonly used however, do not take this if you have or any chance of having yeast, or fungus, any systemic infection will only be further advanced
