Teas

Whether from singing, public speaking, colds, allergies, or just overuse of your voice;  you can suffer from a tired voice, swollen vocal cords, throat inflammation, sore throat, and even throat infections.  These herbs can be mixed together in any number of combinations to help reduce these unwanted side effects of throat irritation.

 

Cayenne–  1 pinch in warm water or 5 drops of extract, with honey

Good for any sore throat, inflammation in the throat, throat infections, swollen vocal cords

Turmeric– tired and overused voice

Slippery Elm-  soothes and relieves tired, dry throat, dry cough with inflammation, coats swollen mucous membranes and calms irritated throat tissue, also good in cough syrups

Marshmallow Root–  mucilage, coats and soothes the throat, dry throat, tired voice

Figs– simmer them in water with herbs for a tea, coats the throat and soothes dry sore overused voice

Cinnamon, Ginger, Nutmeg—add to any tea for anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects, throat infection

Pineapple– juice or cook into water for tea water, contains bromelain which is anti-inflammatory

Sage-  believed to be one of the best for all throat problems, combined with licorice root and propolis in warm water as a gargle and tea for laryngitis, known as the throat “cure all”, heals throat ulcers

Licorice Root– another anti-inflammatory, reduces swelling  and inflamed throat tissues, sore throat and inflamed membranes, tired and overused voice, anti-allergy throat problems

 

Gargles

 Make strong teas and cool, then gargle, spit out.  Drink fresh tea, sipping slowly over a 15 minute period to soothe throat tissues using herbs above.

Sage– strong tea, cool- sore throats

Goldenseal Root– strong tea, cool- throat infection

White Pine & White Oak–  inflamed and swollen vocal cords, tonsillitis, swollen tonsils

Peppermint- inflamed and swollen vocal cords, swollen tonsils, cools and soothes red inflamed throat

Cayenne– 1 pinch in warm water with a squeeze of lemon- pain reducing, antibacterial

Salt– 1 teaspoon of salt dissolved in 1 cup of warm water- add to any herb for any gargle

Apple Cider Vinegar–  1 teaspoon in warm water with honey

White Oak, Peppermint, Myrrh- combine for red inflamed vocal cords, tonsils, general sore throat
