How to Make a Syrup Supplement
We all need a strong immune system, but especially in the fall and winter months. Making a syrup as a supplement is easy and very effective. Combining specific herbs and mushrooms that are particular to your needs is the base of your recipe. I will first provide the basic recipe. From this you can customize and specialize your mix to best meet your specific health need, ranging from cold and flu season to cancer.
Basic Recipe
Combine 1/3 cup of cut herb with 1.5 quarts of cold filtered or distilled water. Gradually bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce your heat to a simmer for 45 minutes covered. Place the lid slightly ajar or pull the pot off the center of the heat to prevent it from boiling. Do not boil your herbs but only simmer. The lid being on is the best product, so no matter even when the heat is on low, you will need to pull the pot to the side to prevent it from overcooking. Bring a small pan of just water to a boil and cook for 20 minutes, set aside. This water will be sterile and used at the end of the recipe if more water is needed for the finished product.
After 45 minutes, strain your tea through a mesh stainer. It should equal 8 oz. If it doesn’t, add more prepared previously boiled water, in order to reach this level. Place tea back into pot and next add 8 oz. of RAW honey and gently heat, stirring and mixing to combine. DO NOT BOIL and DO NOT heat more than just enough to liquify and blend together.
Refrigerate your prepared product for up to 3 months in the fridge. This is take as a supplement, using 1 teaspoon per day. Dissolve it in hot water, tea, simply take by mouth.
This recipe can be used to make a cold & flu preventative or remedy, something for arthritis, pain, immune stimulant, or illness formula. There are just really no rules as to what you can make with this recipe.
Here are some variations to this recipe or substitutions you can make
1. Add an additional 1/4 cup or 4 oz. of medicinal mushroom powder of your choice and increase your water for the preparation to 2 quarts. This should still result in an 8 oz. liquid end product.
2. Use just medicinal mushrooms and make an immune or health supplement
3. Combine appropriate medicinal mushroom powder with an anti-cancer herb (powder or cut) and cook these together to produce a supplement. When taking this product, dissolve in hot water and add 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of baking soda. Repeat this 2 to 4 times daily. If taking this 4 times daily, use up to 2 teaspoons of baking soda in 1/2 teaspoon divided doses. Many people report successful results using baking along with honey or sugar to fight cancer. The belief is that cancer seeks out honey. Baking soda neutralizes the yeast or fungus which most now believe is a base in cancer. The two work together. The tea water is infused with herbs and mushrooms while the honey carries it to where it needs to go.
4. Add essential oils to your finished product. Do not add these when the product is too hot or it will infuse into the air instead of your product. Stir these in when the product is cooling but still liquid enough to mix.
5. Any of these recipe combination, add 1 part alcohol to 3 parts syrup, to extend the shelf life of your finished product. Add alcohol when it is cooler yet still liquid. Assuming you have 16 oz. of product (8 oz. tea, 8 oz. honey) you would need 8 oz. of alcohol. Use either brandy (not as recommended), 80 proof vodka, 100 proof vodka, or Everclear. Everclear will extend the shelf life the longest and possibly to as much as 8 to 10 months, maybe even a year.
6. When using alcohol to preserve your product further, you can also opt to use an already prepared tincture as part of this. If you have a 2 oz. tincture, then use 6 oz. of additional alcohol. You can use 8 oz. of tincture if you have it available.
7. For Pain: this is a great addition to the recipe– Add 1 to 4 oz. of kratom and/or Jamaican dogwood to your herbs. This is especially helpful for arthritis, bone and joint pain, fibromyalgia, MS, injury, post surgery, or any other reason you have chronic pain.
There are endless options to this recipe. Use it to make a Supplement Syrup for general purposes or add herbs that are very specific. The best part of this recipe is that the shelf life is very reasonable and yields convenience for busy people, those with small children who cannot easily take pills, or elderly in convalescence. It can even be dissolved in hot oatmeal if you prefer, mashed potatoes, hot tea or just hot water. Taking it by mouth is fast and easy as well. Remember not to give product made with honey to children under one year of age, some say to wait until age two.
