Castor oil contains rinoleic acid which is an unusual fatty acid that can prevent the growth of mold, bacteria, yeast and viruses. Ricinoleic acid can draw toxins out of the tissues. When using a castor oil pack, you can generally expect a bowel movement within 5 hours following application. Castor oil packs should not be used with bowel obstruction , bowel bleeding, during menstruation, or if pregnant or breastfeeding.
HOW TO APPLY A CASTOR OIL PACK
Applied Externally—Steps
1. Soak a piece of cotton flannel or wool in castor oil, in a small glass bowl or container (that has a lid) until it is saturated.
2. Next squeeze out excess and apply the fully saturated cloth to the affected area and cover it with a piece of plastic wrap.
3. Lay a hot water bottle on top of this layering, and reheat when it cools, maintaining the heat throughout treatment. Do not use an electric heating pad but only a hot water bottle.
4. Relax by watching television or reading for about 1 hour or as long as 3 hours, average being 1 hour
5. Repeat this process 3-7 times per week.
Castor oil packs are placed into the bowl or container, covered, and stored in the refrigerator for reuse about 30 times. If it becomes rancid, discard and start with fresh oil. Add castor oil as needed to keep the cloth fully saturated.
Clean-Up–
This is a very sticky and thick oil. Remove with soapy water. Protect bedding and clothes from oil staining.
Another tip— for added benefits apply essential oil for your particular issue (one that doesn’t burn the skin- some are too strong) to the area to be treated just prior to applying the castor oil pack. The oils can help promote more intense effects in some cases. If using DMSO on the skin surface before applying the pack, do not use plastic wrap and use a thin cotton cloth or flannel piece instead.
Be sure to use only cold-expressed 100% natural castor oil.
