Lithium Orotate– a Functional Element

Disclaimer:  Do not take Lithium Orotate with mental health drugs including drugs because this supplemental element is a conflict with these medications. The following information is not intended to substitute any medication nor to take the place of your doctor.  It is not intended to diagnose, treat, nor prescribe, or in anyway take the place of any drug you may be taking. If you need medical help, it is recommended you seek out an appropriate health care provider.

What is Lithium Orotate?

This is the mineral salt element which is found in small amounts in all living things. It is used to make the bipolar drug and is synthesized to produce lithium. However, lithium orotate is NOT a drug and it is an incredible supplement for many health applications. Here are the benefits of this supplement.

You may also find the element lithium in other forms or under the tradename Monolith:  Lithium Orotate is a source of NATURAL lithium — which is a lightweight element with heavyweight applications.

There are different forms, however, we only carry the Orotate (orotic acid) form which is a biochemical substance. Lithium orotate is a necessary raw material for making the genetic material: RNA and DNA.

Other lithium salts have been used for more than a century to treat mania. During the past few decades lithium therapy has become one of the mainstays in the treatment of ‘bipolar disorder’ (manic-depression). A number of lab studies have kindled interest in the use of lithium for treating Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases or neuro-damage.

Lithium Orotate is not to be confused with the treatment drug Lithium which carries heavy side effects.  Lithium Orotate is a natural element which has been safely taken for decades and yet is not easy to find at a common health food store.

Most recent clinical and laboratory applications for supplementing Lithium Orotate suggests its use for the following—

ONE PILL DAILY is the dosage and not to be exceeded. Most take this product 5 or 6 days on and 1 or 2 days off, each week.

An incredible fact:  Lithium Orotate taken for just 1 month has been shown in studies, to increase brain grey matter by 3 %.

Side Effects of Taking Too Much Lithium Orotate

As with all things, again, less is more.  No matter how great this supplement is, 1 pill daily is recommended and 2 pills is not better nor more effective.  Taking too much over time can result in a feeling of twitchiness or you could feel jumpy.  In over 20 years, I have only seen occur in a rare individual or someone who is not taking the supplement as directed.  If this were to occur, simply stop taking Lithium Orotate and it goes away completely.  The other side effect is vivid dreaming. You may or may not want vivid dreaming and it doesn’t happen for everyone. However, if you don’t want better dream recall and do not like vivid dreaming, Lithium Orotate affects the part of the brain which increases dreaming.

Important NOTE for those suffering from PTSD:

If you suffer from PTSD, this supplement may or may not be suggested for you.  Lithium Orotate can often, but not always, promote vivid dreaming with better recall.  In cases of PTSD, this can be an undesirable effect. If you have questions about this, consult with your therapist before taking Lithium Orotate and whether it is the right application for you individually.

Dosage

The therapeutic dose of lithium orotate (150 mg/day or less) is much lower than that of the other lithium salts. Although the pill size is 150 mg. It can be taken with water or food and should be taken at the beginning of the day. Vivid dreaming is a side effect of this supplement as it affects the area of the brain related to dreaming.
