Tips to help the reconstituted milk turn out as fresh tasting as possible;
- Best mixed in cool water to dissolve more readily.
- After mixing the water and milk powder, stir thoroughly and allow it to set, then re-stir again. You can mix it more thoroughly in a blender but you will need time to allow the foam is dissipate. Allowing the mixture to set helps the protein in the milk powder to blend more thoroughly and makes a better end product.
- Chill the milk before serving.
- Best prepared as needed and slightly in advance to use. Mixing it the night before and refrigerating yields the best results when you can. If you are using milk powder due to a power outage. if it is cold outside, you can store it outside overnight for the next days use.
- 2 quarts of reconstituted milk is usually enough for a family of 4 for 1 day.
- Additives; if you prefer, to make the product more palletable, you can add a couple drops of vanilla extract or a spoonful or two of raw sugar. For general cooking however, it is best left plain.
- Reconstituted milk can be combined with regular store purchased whole milk to yield the equivalent of a 2% product.
