How to Mix Psyllium Husk
Fiber supplements are an excellent way to incorporate more fiber when diet alone is not enough. Most people think of fiber supplements for constipation, however, certain fibers or blends are just as effective for chronic diarrhea. Regardless of what type of fiber you are using, mixing it is the same.
When to Take Fiber
Take fiber on an empty stomach either 1 hour before a meal or 2 hours after eating. This is usually taken in the morning. If taking fiber more than once, an hour before dinner is also a good time to add an extra dose. Do not take medication or supplements at the same time as fiber or they will be lost and absorbed by the fiber. Do not take fiber at bedtime because your digestive juices shut down and the product will not function properly.
Fiber Use For Constipation
Be sure to drink plenty of water or tea throughout the day while taking fiber. You not only need to move waste quicker through the bowel but you also need to hydrate the stool with water which will act as a stool softener. Always drink an 8 to 12 oz. glass of water during the first ½ hour after taking fiber.
If the fiber is not resolving a slow bowel, drink 1 to 3 cups of senna leaf tea between meals. If you are taking calcium, be aware that calcium constipates and magnesium loosens. As a corrective, take more magnesium or try taking 2 oz. of whole leaf aloe vera juice 1-3 times daily between meals. For chronic constipation, take the fiber mix AM and again late in the afternoon.
Fiber Use For Diarrhea
If you are using a fiber mix specific to diarrhea, try taking 1 teaspoon of product periodically throughout the day, to help form a stool and slow things down. Taking 15 grams of apple pectin in cold water an hour before the fiber, can be helpful to curb watery stools. You can take 30 grams of apple pectin each day if needed. Some mix the pectin with the fiber, but it is likely more effective by itself. If you are supplementing magnesium, be aware that magnesium loosens the stools and can cause diarrhea. To help correct this, avoid magnesium until the diarrhea is corrected or supplement more calcium. If the GI tract is inflamed, try taking 2 oz. of inner filet aloe vera juice 1-2 times per day between meals along with 1 tablespoon of fulvic-humic acid liquid and 1 drop of essential oil of cinnamon.
How to Mix Fiber
Always SHAKE fiber or colon cleanses and NEVER STIR TO MIX. Because of the general nature of fiber, it forms air bubbles when stirred. These bubbles can burst and stick on the inside of the throat, causing a choking hazard — TO AVOID THIS, ALL FIBER PRODUCTS SHOULD BE SHAKEN, USING A SHAKER JAR.
Take a 6-8 oz. shaker bottle, fill 2/3 full with water, tea, or diluted juice. Next add 1 rounded teaspoon (6-8 oz.) to 1 rounded tablespoon (10-12 oz.) of product. Put the lid on and shake vigorously for 15 seconds. ALWAYS drink immediately or the product will jell solid. After drinking the fiber mix, refill the bottle with water, shake and drink. This assures plenty of water for expansion of the product and effectiveness. Immediately rinse your shaker bottle or the fiber mix will cling to the sides and be difficult to clean.
