Angelica Root has a long history as a female tonic herb, particular as to induce labor in overdue pregnant women and to help expel the placenta after childbirth.  Angelica Root should not be used during pregnancy or it can induce premature labor or miscarriage of the fetus Aside from its reputation as a birthing herb, Angelica also helps to relieve painful menstruation, cramping, bloating, and delayed periods. Coupled with chaste tree berry (vitex), Angelica Root can be useful in stabilizing irregular periods and reducing PMS symptoms.  It increases urine production which reduces edema and bloating.

As a bitter, it is a digestive aid to reduce gas, settle upset stomach, calm nervous digestive orders, and promote overall digestive health.
