Dopamine & Mucuna

Mucuna is an excellent herb to help balance dopamine, serotonin, and epinephrine. Below is detailed information about improving dopamine using Mucuna and complementary foods, supplements, and herbs. To improve dopamine levels, be sure to keep serotonin in balance for best results. Overuse of drugs or supplements that stimulate serotonin, such as 5HTP for example, can result in an imbalance between dopamine and serotonin. Ideally, Serotonin and Dopamine should work together in balance. Increased levels of serotonin can lead to decreased dopamine activity and vice versa. For example, serotonin inhibits impulsive behavior while dopamine enhances it. Because low levels of serotonin can cause an overproduction of dopamine, some researchers say this could lead to an increase in impulsive behavior. Using the herb Mucuna as a supplement can be ideal because it balances serotonin, dopamine, and epinephrine, keeping things in check so the neurotransmitters work together in symphony. See Mucuna under Products

Mucuna is nature’s source of L-Dopa for the promotion of healthy dopamine levels. Dopamine is critical to mood and feelings of happiness. All substances of abuse rob the neurotransmitter dopamine. Using Mucuna can help to restore the body’s ability to produce it and improve mood and disposition.

Mucuna as a Dopamine Supplement

Mucuna Product Description

  • Nature’s boost for healthy mental and sexual function
  • Effective for both men and women
  • Standardized Extract strength 15% L-DOPA
  • Improves Mood and Wellness during the dieting process
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Supports production of L-dopamine to help replace or restore the natural supply which is depleted by some drugs or medications. Certain medications as well as street drugs use dopamine as “fuel” so to speak, Mucuna helps to replace the depleted dopamine to promote improved mood and “happiness” when used over a period of time  (drugs for example such as cocaine, meth, Ritalin, Adderall, *Heroine, etc.).

Which substance is the worst offender in regards to the abuse of dopamine?

Drug Fact;  You may often wonder why America has such a drug problem and why recovery from them is so difficult. You need not look further than the true addiction and desire for dopamine, known as the happy hormone and neurotransmitter.  Heroin is quickly converted to morphine which then binds to the brains receptor for reward and happiness, the source of their addiction. Heroin makes you feel more “happy” than you naturally can produce. As an opiate, Heroin causes the brain’s dopamine level involved in this reward system to increase by as much as 200%, the highest recorded.

Mucuna supports your body to also produce more L-Dopa which is a natural anti-depressant. If you take Mucuna with Green Tea, you also include a natural source of L-Theanine which helps to combat depression. L-Theanine off-sets the caffeine in Green Tea, so many who cannot drink coffee or even Black Tea, CAN drink Green Tea.

What is the Difference Between “Happiness” from Serotonin or Dopamine?

Serotonin;  helps you feel happier, more calm and focused. Serotonin plays a much higher role in digestion as compared to dopamine

Dopamine will make you feel productive, motivated, busy, accomplished, Dopamine plays a much higher role in the brains production

Too much Dopamine increases more impulsive behavior and on the other hand, serotonin inhibits impulsive behavior.

Dopamine and Serotonin both play a vital role in regulating appetite; suppressing and increasing depending upon your body’s needs. When a person cannot eat because they have no appetite, it may be caused by a regulatory problem with the balance between Dopamine and Serotonin and closely associated with so many digestive orders like IBS, Crohn’s, Ulcerative Colitis, Post Antibiotic use, and all kinds of IBDs.

Supplementing Mucuna

Take with or without food. Start with 1 capsule AM and PM on an empty stomach or taken early in the day with the first meal for all-day-relief. Every 3-5 days, if needed, you can increase the dosage by one capsule until reaching no more than 6 capsules. If at 6 capsules, results are not experienced, reduce to 2 capsules daily and add in a complementary supplement. Most individuals find that 2 capsules daily is adequate and add other complementary supplements for variable benefits based on their personal needs. The supplements and herbs mentioned above are complementary. If adding to base supplement plan, try to add in one additional one at a time so that you can better judge what is working. We generally find that adding to the regiment works better as compared to quitting one thing and trying something else. Most of these types of products are more effective used in unison in a combination. This takes time to determine. Generally people start with 2 or 3 products for about 2 weeks to test results before adding something new. The goal is to find the ideal combination of products to get winning results.
