Peppermint Leaf–  Certified Organic—  Peppermint is a delicious herb which has a vast number of health benefits.  Few plants are so widely popular and used in as many products.

Benefits of Organic Peppermint Leaf Include:

Brain, Pain, and Nerve Impulses

Peppermint is a catalyst herb which as a medicinal plant, enhances the qualities of other herbs it is mixed with.  It has an infinity for the brain and helps to carry signals throughout the body.  It is beneficial in calming and reducing pain signals, and helps to reduce the anxiety associated with depression.

Digestion

Peppermint as a digestive aid, may be irritating to some people, such as those with chronic diarrhea, but regardless is considered an exceptional tea for indigestion, and those with various forms of IBD (irritable bowel disease).

Peppermint is stronger in flavor and effects than its close cousin spearmint.  It is calming and numbing when used for headaches and stomach upset as a digestive aid.  It improves the flow of bile and calms muscles in the stomach.  Because it calms the stomach, food passes through the GI tract more quickly.

Although Peppermint is excellent for digestion, it is not recommended for disorders such as GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) except as an enteric coated capsule. As an enteric capsule it passes through the stomach and into the digestive tract where it can reduce nausea, gas, bloating, and reflux without the stomach upset.

It can be helpful to reduce flatulence and constipation when consumed with meals.  For indigestion after eating, some find relief drinking peppermint tea together with taking a supplement of activated charcoal capsules.  Peppermint may reduce cramps and has been found to kill various types of viruses, bacteria, and fungus.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome-  IBS

Using enteric coated peppermint capsules may help reduce diarrhea, bloating, gas and pain by helping to prevent the  release of peppermint oil in the stomach itself, but rather passing it on into the digestive tract where it IS beneficial. Both GERD and IBS benefit from enteric coated capsules but should AVOID using peppermint for indigestion in tea form or oil.

Gas and Bloating

The reason that peppermint reduces gas and bloating is because it is calming and numbing;  it acts by relaxing the muscles in the digestive tract allowing painful gas to pass.

Headache

Peppermint oil can be applied externally for headache.  Many find relief combining both essential oil of peppermint and frankincense and applying it directly to headache pain spots on the back of the forehead, scull, temples, bone behind the ear or tender areas on the scalp.  When applying it however, always dilute peppermint or it will cause skin irritation.  To dilute peppermint for this application use a 50/50 blend of essential oil to any carrier oil you wish. If skin irritation or sensitivity is still an issue, dilute further, even a 1:4 ratio.

Skin Irritation

Apply peppermint tea or diluted essential oil to soothe skin irritations including poison ivy, poison oak, or hives.

Colds & Flu

The active component of peppermint is menthol.  Menthol is an effective cold remedy for congestion.  Menthol breaks up mucus and phlegm and expels it while soothing a sore throat.  It settles a dry unproductive cough and is commonly used in chest rubs.

Bone, Joint, and Muscle Aches & Pain

It relieves tense muscles and pain when used in massage creams and oils.  It is a primary ingredient in massage oils and ointments which causes a cooling reaction to strained muscles or painful joints.
